In
this section you can learn about many of the natural formations you
will see on your underground tour.
More than 150 years after its discovery, Howe Caverns
remains one of the most popular attractions and vacation destinations
in New York State, recently voted in the Top 5 Northeast family attractions
by Disney's Family Fun readers. When you visit, you'll journey
156 feet (48 meters) underground to discover a prehistoric world formed
millions of years ago. You don't have to be a serious "caver"
or spelunker to appreciate the geology of Howe Caverns: your knowledgeable
tour guide will point out magnificent limestone formations. Into the elevator
we go. 156 feet down, 48 meters, 15 or 16 stories, 32 seconds, 52°
Fahrenheit (12° Celcius), 70 to 75% humidity. You'll cap off your
tour with a memorable quarter-mile (400 meter) boat ride on the waters
of the underground Lake of Venus.

- Elevator ride down 156 feet to the vestibule of the
cave,
- Videotaped documentary about the cave in our Visitor
Center,
- WAIVED ADMISSIONS CHARGE OF $18 PER ADULT.
For the protection of the cave and the well
being of all those who come to enjoy this natural wonder, as well as those
who will come in the future,
please secure the following items in your vehicle before you begin
your cavern tour:
- Backpacks and baby
backpack carriers;
- Large bags, including
diaper bags, camera bags, and large purses;
- Strollers and walkers.
(Please note: we can
accommodate baby front carriers.)
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause
but are bound by Mother Nature's creation and the safety of our valued
guests.
