Experience Howe Caverns in a different light...

...the way Lester Howe and his guests first saw it in 1842 - by lantern light! All Lantern Tours begin in the museum area with an extensive history. Then you will be guided through the caverns under the full beauty of the lights, to the underground lake where torches and lanterns are lit. The remainder of the tour will be by lantern light, enjoying the mystique of the caverns in a manner similar to the way the early visitors did.

Lantern Tours are offered Friday and Saturday evenings year-round. The tour lasts approximately 2 hours. Tours are limited to 12 guests and advance reservations are required. All participants must be age 16 or older, with 16 and 17 year-olds accompanied by an adult.

Five course dinner prepared by a Culinary Institute of America chef and more.

With this special Culinary Delights Package, you will enjoy a traditional guided tour of Howe Caverns, which will take you through a living, limestone cave, carved by an underground river over the course of millions of years. During the tour you will learn the history of New York State’s second most visited natural attraction, as well as some local lore about its founder, Lester Howe. And while visiting Howe Caverns’ Tudor style lodge, built in 1927, stop at the Sweet Shop for some of our delicious homemade fudge.

In the evening you will enjoy a unique dining experience at the George Mann Tory Tavern. Dating from 1770 and restored to its original elegance, guests enjoy their step back in history through leisurely-paced, elegant dining in a colonial setting. Your package includes two 5 course complete dinners prepared by a Culinary Institute of America Chef, including appetizer, soup, salad, entrée, dessert and non-alcoholic beverage (gratuity not included). Family friendly Lantern Tour with flashlights and helmets

Fun for the whole family. It's exciting, it's educational and most of all it's a great adventure, in a living limestone cave, carved by an underground river over the course of millions of years. A variation of our Lantern Tour with flashlights and geared toward the younger family members. Everyone is able to navigate the cave as our discoverer Lester Howe did....in the dark!

You will begin your tour with an introduction to the cave by a very lifelike animatronic Lester Howe, who discovered Howe Caverns in 1842. After your visit with Lester, you will begin your descent via elevator 156 feet into the great cave.

Your guide will take you through the caverns under the full beauty of the lights, to the underground boat ride on the Lake of Venus. Upon your return to the dock, all lights in the cave will be extinguished and you will continue your journey out of the cave by flashlight (both kids and adults) and lighted head lamps (kids only - sorry mom and dad!)

Our new Family "Flashlight Tour" is available on Sunday evenings. The tour wil begin at 6:30 pm from April 1 - October 31 and at 5:30 pm from November 1 - March 31, will last approximately 2 hours and is limited to 24 guests per tour. Advance reservations are required and for the safety of our younger guests, the age requirement must be 5 years and older.
